After rumours about a local market in close proximity that served freshly baked doughnuts, Kestrel held a vote whether said doughnuts should be acquired. A critical lunch break was voted in favour by the entire group, before we marched our way to buy solid amounts of doughnuts. Other than that, this week’s efforts centered on early-stage development planning, hardware concept evaluation, and initial interface work. A software development roadmap was established, along with a preliminary communication setup plan between the dispenser and ground station, pending hardware availability for implementation. Interface integration with QGroundControl encountered issues due to unreliable GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity, limiting progress on autonomous flight functionality. Interface modifications began with initial UI elements added, supported by ongoing research. Hardware-focused tasks involved exploring and comparing various concepts for the lid mechanism and charging systems, with promising solutions identified for further analysis. Material assessments and calculations, including thermal considerations and actuator requirements, supported ongoing design work. CAD prototyping and part sourcing also advanced, contributing to system prototyping and planning.
